Suri Cruise can't wait to start school!

Life & Style has learned exclusively that Suri's mom, Katie Holmes, has enrolled her 6-year-old in Avenues, a nearly $40,000-a-year private school opening this fall in NYC.

Says a source, "Katie has eagerly been telling Suri all about the lunchrooms, basketball courts and different activities Avenues offers. Suri's really excited about it."

At the 215,000-square-foot school, Suri will learn Spanish or Mandarin, along with the basics: reading, writing, math, science and music. While previous reports claimed Suri would be attending the all-girls Catholic school, Convent of the Sacred Heart, Life & Style can confirm Suri will start first grade at Avenues, which overlooks the High Line in NYC and is just a few short blocks away from Katie and Suri's Chelsea-neighborhood apartment.

Avenues has a fitness center and rooftop playground, plus a main gym that includes full-size basketball and volleyball courts. The school also has a partnership with nearby Chelsea Piers athletic facilities, where Suri's taken gymnastics classes for years, so she'll feel right at home!

Avenues calls itself a "world school" and will have branches in China, India, Africa and Europe, along with other U.S. cities, so when Suri -- who's already a world traveler -- is in high school, she can do a semester abroad!
