Colorado shooting: Holmes goes before the judge

James Holmes, the 24 year old suspect in the Colorado shooting that left 12 people dead and dozens of injured after he stormed a theater and started firing, will go before the judge today in his firt court appearence.

The suspect could be charged in more than 70 counts and if convicted, could receive the death penalty.

The Denver suburb of Aurora was shocked Friday after midnight at a movie theater complex while people were watching 'The Dark Night Rises'. Holmes entered one of the theaters from an exit door, stood on the front, threw a tear gas canister and started shooting at people.

Chaos took over the place as movie goers started to flee the theater amid the bullets. Holmes walked towards the first rows and kept shooting.

Police surrounded the building and caught Holmes in his car. Four firearms were confiscated, two rifles and two handguns.

He is being kept at an isolated cell at the county jail to avoid possible attacks on him.

In the meantime, actor Christian Bale, who plays Batman in "The Dark Knight Rises," expressed horror and grief for the victims of Friday's shooting spree that left 12 dead in a Colorado theater at a midnight showing of his new movie.

"Words cannot express the horror that I feel," he said in a statement released on Saturday by his spokeswoman, Jennifer Allen. "I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them."

James Holmes, 24, is in police custody and accused of the crime in which 58 others were injured. Holmes also is accused of booby-trapping his apartment in the Denver suburb of Aurora, Colorado, before the rampage.
